Something Beautiful

PROJECT: WHAT IS MY SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL?

A girl longs to see beyond the dirty sidewalk and the angry scribbling in the halls of her building. When her teacher writes the word beautiful on the blackboard, the girl decides to look for something beautiful. She has experienced the beauty of friendship and the power of hope.

Objectives:

  • Brainstorm a list of possible ideas for beautifying the school.
  • Reflect on the school community.
  • Create receptacles for found recycled objects

Concept/Topic Overview:

  • Students learning about something beautiful can be just the thing for raising our spirits.

Using broom and dustpan to make the school more beautiful.

Pick up trash around school campus or in the neighborhood.

Cleaning the wall free of graffitti.

  Taking action and feeling empowered.

Aluminum and steel cans, cardboard, glass, newspapers and plastic bottles are all recyclable.

These items can be made into new products including cans that hold food and drinks, the steel used to build skyscrapers and school buses, cardboard boxes, glass jars and bottles, newspaper and office paper, plastic laundry detergent bottles and even playground equipment.
